The Math PictoCards Story

Like many teachers and parents, we’ve seen firsthand that much of what is learned through repetition drill without basic understanding is forgotten within 48 hours – in one ear, out the other.

Although scientific studies describe this outcome in various ways, the general consensus is that as students receive new information, they need understanding and association for that information to become long-term memory.

Because math, by nature, is a cumulative subject, it can muddy the waters in the life of a young learner if a firm foundation is not laid in preparation for higher-level math.

Developed over 10 years, our PictoCard products are designed to provide a foundation to give students the edge for success in all math.  We do this by streamlining the mastery of 1-digit facts and by focusing on harnessing the brain’s amazing ability for maximum understanding.

Our hope is that math will become enjoyable as kids gain a clear big-picture map for where they’ve been and where they’re going. We want kids to have confidence in their ability to strategically figure out problems in real-life activities – in the kitchen, on the living room floor, or on the way to baseball or gymnastics.

We also hope this product will give parents and teachers a road-map for teaching math by harnessing the brain and losing the clutter of time-consuming teacher’s texts and workbooks.
